Hair Journey

Starting the Grow Out Journey

Yes, you read the title correctly. After 6 months of rocking a buzz cut, I decided to grow it out.

Why?

It was around June that I started wanting to grow my hair. It had already gotten pretty long just because I hadn’t found the time to re-shave it, and I found that I was liking it. I also have plans to study abroad in fall 2026, and I want a more typical hair style for that. According to the Internet, it takes about a year to grow out a buzz, so I figured I should get a start on that.

Fourth of July

I told a friend of mine that I wanted to start growing out my hair, and she convinced me to do something with it first as a sendoff. So, for the Fourth of July, I let her shave a mohawk of sorts, and I used temporary hair dye to dye it blue. Very patriotic if I do say so myself.

But then…

Fourt of July was a Friday this year and I wanted to shave my hair back down to one length for Mass on Sunday. I meant to go to 9mm, which was the length of the sides of my mohawk. Guess who misread and used a 3mm guard instead?

Yeah… I looked a little rough for a few weeks. On the bright side, I think my self-esteem can take just about any bad hair day after that. And the good news is that when your hair is that short it grows really quickly.

Here’s a picture of me from a couple days ago, almost two months out from the shearing. I think I can say I’ve recovered.

Conclusion

Presently, there’s not much to report. But I will keep the fans updated. I wonder how long it will take to reach pixie status?

Until next time, stay safe out there and remember to double check your guard length before buzzing.
