Defending Tortured Poets
So I’ve had this conversation enough times in the past week to warrant a blog post. People seem to really dislike Taylor Swift’s new music, especially her albums Midnights and The Tortured Poets Department, but her new stuff is good! So good!! I don’t get the hate. I’m a big fan of her new pop stuff, and her voice has gotten so much stronger over the years. Hot take, but I actually really like her song “Anti-Hero.” And I won’t apologize for it. Especially as the weather warms up, I’m really getting back into Tortured Poets. I mean, come on, “The Alchemy,” “Fresh Out The Slammer,” and “Florida!!!” are right…

Lent 2025
I had a really good Lent this year! It was probably the most reflective and spiritual yet for me. This year I decided to give up music; I deleted Spotify off my phone and computer and refused to listen to any music on YouTube or the radio. Now I couldn’t control whether or not I heard music all the time because both of my campus jobs would play music and I can’t exert my will over others. So on the days when I had accidentally consumed a lot of music (almost every day), I also gave up gum. Which might not seem like that big of a deal, but I…

One of My First Real Attempts at Fasting
Well, as the title says, I tried to actually, intentionally fast for one of the first times in my life. Okay so here me out. I was raised to abstain from meat on Ash Wednesday and all Fridays during Lent. However, I didn’t fully realize the Catholic obligation to fast as well until some years down the road. The way Catholic fasting works is this: on Ash Wednesday and Good Friday, we are only allowed to eat one regular meal and then two smaller meals which, when added together, may not equal another full meal. So basically two snacks throughout the day and one regular meal (I usually choose dinner).…

Big Show Success!!
Hey guys! I just wanted to pop in here to talk about my newest obsession this semester: UMW’s Performing Arts Company, or, as it will be called from here on out, PAC. Let me tell you my dance story. I’ve danced since I was five and up until the beginning of middle school. I did tap, contemporary, jazz, modern, tumbling, and, my favorite, hip hop. I’ve never been a big sports person, but I love dance. My teachers were usually fun and very kind, and I like how a dance piece is something you rehearse ahead of time, as opposed to making it up on the spot within the confines…

Richmond College Summit Recap
Salutations! From February 7th to February 8th I was at the Richmond College Summit with the University of Mary Washington. It was hosted by the Office for Evangelization in the Greater Richmond Convention Center at the same time as the Diocesan Youth Conference (DYC), which is basically the high school version of Summit. (I went to DYC last year and had an absolute blast.) Even though Mary Wash is in the Diocese of Arlington and not Richmond, we were kindly invited to attend! This short conference was much-needed and allowed me to refocus my priorities and remember what this life is all about: glorifying the Lord. I had a fun…

The Big Chop
To the surprise of many who know me, I buzzed my hair. Introduction Now, my hair has gone through several stages: from the terrible bangs to the even worse dye jobs. I had kept my hair longish for years, though, until about 8th grade when I got a bob. And since then, I’ve never grown it out longer than slightly below my shoulders. Boredom strikes But that was five years ago, and I had grown very bored and frustrated with my hair in recent months. My short hair required so much maintenance, and as a lazy college student, I was unwilling to keep up with that maintenance. As a member…
